On June 17鈥�18, 2026, the American University in Central Asia Library hosted the annual training for university libraries in Kyrgyzstan. The event was held in partnership with听 EBSCO, Clarivate, and the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan.听
The training brought together over 30 libraries and information specialists to discuss current issues related to the modernization of academic libraries, the implementation of digital and research tools, and the exchange of practical experience in electronic resources, repositories, information literacy, collection preservation, and librarians' professional development.
The program combined international perspectives with local experiences. In her opening remark Dr. Jyldyz Bekbalaeva, 偶蜜国际传媒 Library Director emphasized the evolving role of libraries in digital era and highlighted resources and services available to universities in Kyrgyzstan. She also presented the transformative agreement between 偶蜜国际传媒 and Cambridge University Press, which provides universities across the country with access to scholarly journals and supports Gold Open Access publishing for researchers.听
Long standing partners EBSCO and Clarivate contributed to the training. Alexander Rytau from EBSCO demonstrated new AI-powered tools for scholarly research. Clarivate experts Martin Blomqvist and听 Lyaziza Mukasheva presented international approaches to research support and shared analytical data on research output in Kyrgyzstan.
A special highlight of this year鈥檚 training was the participation of the specialists from the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Their sessions on the preservation and restoration of library collections attracted considerable interest. During a hands-on workshop participants practiced basic restoration techniques and discussed common preservation challenges faced by librarians in the region. Their visit opened new opportunities for future cooperation in professional training and capacity building in the field of restoration and conservation.
The training once again demonstrated the value of professional partnership and knowledge sharing. By bringing together the librarians and international experts the event strengthened regional collaboration.
