“Academic Libraries: Trends and Innovations” Conference at ż۹ʴý
June 20, 2025
On June 12-13, 2025, ż۹ʴý hosted the international conference bringing together over library professionals from Central Asia and abroad.
At the conference's opening, ż۹ʴý President Timothy O’Connor welcomed the participants. In his speech, he thanked the organizers, partners, and sponsors for their contributions to the planning and successful implementation of the conference. Dr. O’Connor emphasized the importance of libraries for society, education, and science, expressing confidence that “the conference will not only serve as a platform for sharing knowledge and practices, but also as a foundation for sustainable collaboration between library communities in Central Asia and international partners.”
The conference program was opened with a keynote address by Dr. Lata Suresh from the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs, who delivered an inspiring talk on transformational leadership in academic libraries. Her presentation emphasized the evolving role of library professionals as change agents and highlighted strategies for driving innovation, fostering collaboration, and advancing institutional goals through visionary leadership.
The conference gathered over 100 participants from 20 countries. Over two days, 40 speakers presented on a wide range of topics. Librarians and information professionals shared their experiences, discussed electronic resources and services, open access and scholarly communication, explored opportunities for future collaboration, and exchanged ideas.
The conference sponsors — OSUN, EBSCO, IEEE, MikroInformation, MyLoft, OCLC, and Clarivate — presented their resources and innovative solutions for libraries.
Participants also had the opportunity to tour ż۹ʴý’s Makerspace Center for Learning and Design. A delegation from the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan met with ż۹ʴý President Timothy O’Connor and presented a copy of the book Kazakhstan, My Native Land.
Following the main program, post-conference library visits and networking events further enriched the experience, helping to establish new partnerships between local librarians and their international peers. These informal gatherings fostered continued dialogue, collaboration, and the exchange of professional expertise.
Attendees commended the conference for its outstanding organization and engaging program. Over two dynamic and productive days, attendees engaged in meaningful discussions and knowledge sharing. Special acknowledgment was given to the student volunteers, whose dedicated efforts significantly contributed to the overall success of the conference.
